Laudato Si’: On Care for our Common Home is the title of an encyclical (letter) from Pope Francis appealing for an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet.
Released on June 18, 2015, Laudato Si’ is addressed to “every person living on this planet” to ‘”bring the whole human family together seek a sustainable and integral development” (LS #13) .
The title of Laudato Si’ is taken from the Canticle of the Sun , a song of praise composed by St Francis of Assisi in 1215. In it St Francis speaks of all creatures as our Brothers and Sisters, and of Earth as our Mother “who sustains us and governs us”. This conviction — that all creatures form one family of creation — is shared by Laudato Si’ in which we hear repeatedly hear “everything is connected”.
